This workshop was organized as part of the research project Metaphilosophy of the Croatian Science Foundation (IP-2022-2550) which tries to answer the question “What is philosophy?” by discussing its nature and methodology. The workshop created a space for dialogue between philosophers working on themes that are relevant for answering the previously mentioned research question. To this end some of the themes that were discussed in the workshop were the following: the place of the epistemological and linguistic turn in philosophy, the relevance of conceptual analysis and conceptual engineering for our methodology, new insights from the philosophy of language regarding slurs and identity prejudice etc. The workshop concluded with a commemoration dedicated to Prof. Dunja Jutronić (1943 – 2025) who was one of the founders of philosopy of language in Croatia.
The workshop featured a keynote lecture delivered by Michael Devitt who is a Distinguished Professor of Philosophy (Emeritus) at CUNY Graduate Center, Department of Philosophy. The title of his lecture was “Naturalism and the Rejection of the Epistemological and Linguistic Turns”.
This workshop had advanced the goals outlined by the project by fostering constructive dialogue and identifying potential avenues for further research. The insights gained at this workshop will also significantly support further inquiry into the project subject matter.
